well, actually, in joplin's later days, he had crippling paralysis in his fingers, and he wasn't able to play perfectly the way he used to. maybe this was from that time. and you don't need to have a period over a youtube argument. calm the fuck down.

Actually dude ur kinda right and wrong - He plays it both ways. Like its actually straight most times, but here for some reason he plays it swung - check out some more originals, you can tell they are him by the riffs he adds - they are always the same.

Ragtime should definately be swung. Living in Sedalia, MO I get to hear all the ragtime I can stand when the festival takes over downtown for a weekend every year.

I have listed to dozens of videos on youtube and other places as well, and none play it like the man himself. It can now be played on any piano anywhere with a portable midi player! (The one made by Yamaha that actually play the piano when you lay it across the keys.) I noticed the true Ragtime feel this had by using an early form of syncopation. I do not see it written this way or played this way by many people. This is truly the correct way to play Maple Leaf Rag, and the correct tempo!
